How to start with YourCVTool and what you need for it.
Do I need an account to build a resume?
No. You can build your resume right in the browser, switch between templates, and see the live preview without signing up. You only need an account once you want to save, download, share, or use an AI feature.
How long does it take to finish a resume?
Most users finish in 10 to 15 minutes using the AI suggestions. Without AI it typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on experience. Updating an existing resume later takes just a few minutes.
Can I import an existing resume?
Yes, you can enter your details manually or use an existing PDF as a reference while filling in the editor. Then you pick one of the available templates and adjust the design and section order.
What happens to my resume if I don't sign up?
Without an account, your draft only stays in your browser's local storage and is lost if you switch devices or clear your cache. Once you create a free account, your resume is saved securely and accessible from any device.
Who is YourCVTool suited for as an application guide?
YourCVTool is designed for entry-level candidates, experienced professionals, and career changers alike. The templates cover classic fields like administration and skilled trades as well as modern professions in IT, marketing, or creative fields, each with matching phrasing support.
Can I create multiple resumes for different jobs?
Yes, you can create as many resumes as you like in your account and tailor each one individually to a specific job posting. Every version stays saved separately, so you always have the right version ready for different applications.
Does YourCVTool also work on smartphone or tablet?
Yes, the entire editor is built responsively and works just as reliably on smartphone, tablet, and desktop. You can start your resume on your phone while out and about and continue later on your laptop — all changes stay synced through your account once you're signed in.
Subscriptions & Plans
An overview of the three plans and how to switch between them.
What plans are available and what do they cost?
Starter costs €4.99 for 7 days with 100 credits, then automatically continues as Standard unless you cancel. Standard costs €19.99 per month with 1000 credits, Premium costs €39.99 per month with 3000 credits. All plans can be cancelled monthly.
What happens after the 7 days on the Starter plan?
If you don't cancel beforehand, your account automatically switches to the Standard plan at €19.99 per month with 1000 credits. You're notified in advance both in the app and by email so this never comes as a surprise.
Can I cancel my plan at any time?
Yes. Every plan can be cancelled with a single click in the customer portal, no phone call and no questions asked. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep full access until then.
Can I switch between plans?
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time. An upgrade is prorated and applied immediately, while a downgrade takes effect at the next billing period so you don't lose credits you've already paid for.
What happens to leftover credits at the end of the month?
Unused credits expire at the end of the billing period and don't carry over to the next month. At the start of every new billing period, your balance is automatically reset to the full credit amount of your plan.
Is there a free plan with no time limit?
There is no permanently free plan with credits, but building and editing your resume itself is possible without payment. Saving, downloading, sharing, and all AI features require one of the paid plans.
Which plan is worth it for a single urgent application?
For a single urgent application, the Starter plan at €4.99 with 100 credits is usually enough, which covers around ten AI actions like phrasing suggestions or a cover letter. If you're planning several applications over weeks or months, Standard or Premium are cheaper in the long run thanks to the higher credit amount.
Payment & Billing
How payments, credits, and refunds work.
What exactly are credits used for?
Credits are only spent on AI actions, such as generating text, cover letters, or resume photos. The layout itself, all templates, and manual editing don't cost any credits, only the AI output is billed.
How many credits does one AI action cost?
Every AI action costs a flat 10 credits, whether it's a summary, bullet points, or a cover letter. The one exception is the AI photo generator, which costs 20 credits per image because image generation is more resource-intensive.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are processed through Stripe and accept common credit and debit cards. Your payment details are handled exclusively by Stripe and are never stored on our own servers.
Do I get a refund if I cancel?
Cancelling stops future charges, but already-paid periods are not refunded on a prorated basis; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. In case of a technical issue, we review refund requests individually through support.
Do I get an invoice for my subscription?
Yes, Stripe automatically issues an invoice compliant with German law for every payment, which you can download anytime from your customer portal. The invoice includes all the details you need for your own bookkeeping or tax return.
Can I change my payment method afterward?
Yes, in the customer portal you can add a new card or replace the existing one at any time, without interrupting your subscription. The change only affects the next upcoming charge — the current period is not affected.
Is paying via Stripe really secure?
Yes, Stripe is a globally leading, PCI-DSS-certified payment provider also used by major companies like Amazon and Shopify for payment processing. Your card details are transmitted encrypted directly to Stripe and are never stored or processed on YourCVTool's servers.
Data & Privacy
Where your data lives and how you stay in control.
Where is my resume data stored?
Your documents are stored with Firebase (Google Cloud), and uploaded photos are stored with Backblaze B2. Both providers are GDPR-compliant, and only you have access to your own data through your account.
Are the job postings I paste in stored?
No. A pasted job posting never permanently leaves your browser, it's only kept locally on your device to personalize the AI suggestions for that application. It is not stored in our database.
Can I delete photos I've uploaded?
Yes, you can permanently delete any uploaded or generated photo from your gallery at any time. Once deleted, the file is also removed from storage and cannot be recovered.
Can I have my account and all data fully deleted?
Yes. In your account settings you can permanently delete your account along with all resumes, cover letters, photos, and payment links. An active Stripe subscription is automatically cancelled at the same time.
Does YourCVTool share my data with third parties?
No, your personal data and resume content are not sold or shared with advertising networks or data brokers. External service providers like Firebase, Backblaze, and Stripe process data exclusively as data processors under GDPR.
How can I get information about my stored data?
You can request a complete disclosure under Art. 15 GDPR of all data stored about you at any time through support. We respond to information requests in writing by email within the legal deadline of one month.
Are shared resumes publicly visible on the internet?
A shared resume is only reachable via an individual, non-guessable link and is not indexed by search engines or publicly listed. The share link automatically expires at the end of your billing period, and you can also manually deactivate it anytime in your account.

How many templates are available?
There's a wide range of resume and cover letter templates, from classic single-column to modern two-column layouts with a colored sidebar. There's something for every industry and personal style.
Are all templates ATS-friendly?
Yes, every template uses real, machine-readable text instead of images and a clear structure so applicant tracking systems parse your resume correctly. Even the two-column designs keep the important content in the main text area.
Can I switch templates later without losing content?
Yes, you can switch to a different template at any time and all your content is preserved. Only the layout, colors, and typography change, your experience, education, and other entries stay exactly as you wrote them.
Can I customize colors, fonts, and section order?
Yes, you can freely choose the accent color, font, and font size, and reorder sections using arrow controls. This lets you adapt any template to your personal style and the role you're targeting.
Which template works best for a job application in Germany?
For the German job market, clearly structured, single-column templates with a tabular layout, chronological order, and understated color design are recommended. Two-column, modern designs are better suited to creative industries or international companies.
Can I add my own sections that aren't standard?
Yes, you can create custom sections, for example for volunteer work, certifications, or special projects, and name and position them freely. This way, every template can be adapted exactly to your individual background.
Can I add a photo to my resume?
Yes, every template optionally supports an application photo, but you can also leave it out entirely if photo-free resumes are common in your industry. You can upload your own photo or create a professional application photo directly from a selfie with the AI photo generator.

What the AI handles and how much control you keep.
What exactly does the AI do to my resume?
The AI turns your work experience into clear, measurable bullet points, writes a matching summary, and suggests relevant skills. You edit every result directly in the editor, the AI provides a draft, not a finished version without your review.
Can the AI write a cover letter to match my resume?
Yes, you paste in the job posting and the AI creates a tailored cover letter based on your resume and the role's requirements. You can also choose the tone, such as formal, friendly, or persuasive.
How does the AI photo generator work?
You upload a selfie and the AI turns it into a professional headshot with a neutral background and appropriate attire. One run costs 20 credits, and you see the result before it's saved permanently.
Will my resume sound like AI instead of me?
No, the AI works from your own input and rephrases it more professionally, it doesn't invent experience for you. Since you can edit every line, the content stays yours, just clearer and more compelling.
Can the AI match my resume against a job posting?
Yes, the application analysis compares your resume against a pasted job posting and shows you a score along with concrete improvement suggestions, such as missing keywords. This lets you see, before you submit, how well your application really fits.
In which languages can the AI generate text?
The AI supports multiple languages, including German, English, Spanish, and Turkish, independent of the interface language. You set the desired output language separately, so the interface and the generated application text don't have to match.
What happens if an AI request fails? Do I still lose credits?
No, credits are only deducted server-side after an AI action completes successfully — a failed attempt costs you nothing. If the same request is retried shortly after, the system also detects duplicates so you aren't charged twice for the same action.

Security in Detail
Your data is transmitted encrypted and stored with established cloud providers, with strict per-account access rules. Payment and card details are handled exclusively by Stripe, we never store your card data ourselves.

Your resumes and cover letters live in Firebase Firestore, protected by rules that only ever grant you access to your own documents.
